Kenya Nut Company

From Our Farms –  Strawberry Project

KNC has undertaken a trial to evaluate the possibility of commercially producing these and other fruits. Our approach is to come in with a new variety, in different conditions than is normal typically in an open field.

We are currently growing 2 varieties – Japanese cultivars; Akihime and Tochiotome. These will be grown in a greenhouse using hydroponics (we are not using soil as a mode of propagation but rather cocopets – which makes it easier to regulate the conditions for growing.

These strawberries take about 3 months (90 days) between planting and harvesting.

This addition of the berries into our portfolio then should come as no surprise. Strawberries are a rich source of potassium, folic acid as well as fibre, antioxidants and Vitamin C making them a perfect snack, or addition to your salads and breakfast.

Apart from growing new varieties which have so far produced better quality berries, they are bigger in and sweeter than what you will find in your grocery stores or supermarket.
